Radiculopathy
Also referred to as a pinched nerve, radiculopathy is a compressed nerve in the spine. It is most commonly found in the cervical spine (neck area) or in the lumbar spine (lower back), although it can also be found in the thoracic spine (upper back) as well. Radiculopathy is usually a problem that is caused by another condition such as a herniated disc, a bone spur (bone overgrowth), or arthritis (thickening of ligaments), that can result in compression of the nerves. Symptoms include pain, numbness, weakness and/or tingling in the arms or legs. Depending on the location of the affected nerve, different symptoms may occur.
Diagnosis is made upon examination of the back while imaging tests can be used to confirm diagnosis.
