Transforaminal Lumbar Interbody Fusion (TLIF)

A spinal fusion is a procedure that leads to a union of two bones that were not naturally bond together and is aimed at alleviating pain that originates from a motion segment in the spine. For some patients, it may be recommended to have spinal fusion surgery performed in both the front and the back of the spine in an effort to provide extra stability for the painful motion segment. The TLIF procedure involves placing a bone graft and a spacer (cage) into the disc space in the front of the spine with a bone graft and screws placed in the back of the spine.
