Foraminotomy

A foraminotomy, similar to a laminectomy but much smaller, is a procedure that is used to relieve the pressure on the nerves that are being compressed by the foramina. This is a minimally invasive procedure and the incision and exposure are similar to a microdiscectomy. The primary area targeted involves the tunnel, through which the nerve leaves the spine (foramen). A scope is used to find the offending bone or material compressing the foramina and is then removed.
