Posterior Cervical Foraminotomy (Laminotomy)

Cervical laminotomies are performed to relieve pressure on a compressed spinal nerve in the neck. Removal of bone spurs or disc herniations usually relieves the associated neck and arm pain. In contrast to laminectomies where the entire lamina is removed, a laminotomy is a procedure where only a portion of the lamina is removed and often does not need a fusion.
