Discography

Discography is a procedure that involves the injection of contrast dye into discs to determine the disc that is the source of a patient’s pain. This is a diagnostic procedure rather than therapeutic, and it is usually performed at the request of a spine surgeon who is considering spinal surgery and must know precisely at which levels the surgery will be directed. Discography can be performed with relaxation medication to assist with patient comfort. Numbing medication is injected initially, and the level of the affected disc is made based on the location of temporary discomfort encountered during the injection of the contrast dye.
